Phnom Penh

Here, in the capital of Cambodia, there are many things to do to stay occupied.

  • Go to the National Museum of Cambodia, located on Street 13 in central Phnom Penh, right next to the royal palace, get to know Cambodian culture and history. $5 ages 10-17 and $10 ages 18+
  • Take a river cruise on the rivers on Phnom Penh. There are regular sunset cruises from 5 to 7:30pm regularly along the Tonlé Sap and Mekong Rivers.
  • Located on Norodom Boulevard, Wat Phnom is one of the city's most important Buddhist temples, it is often filled with locals praying and leaving offerings.

Sihanoukville

Explore Sihanoukville, one of southern Cambodia's beautiful, coastal cities.

  • Take a boat tour and explore the trails of Ream National Park. Located just outside of Sihanoukville, it is 210 square kilometers of rain forests, creeks, mangroves, and white sand beaches.
  • 1.5 kilometers outside of Sihanoukville, this Buddhist temple is a great escape from the crowds and offers incredible views of the surrounding area.
  • 30 to 40 minutes outside of Sihanoukville, enjoy a picnic, local foods, and the cool waters at the multi tiered Kbal Chhay Waterfalls.

Kratie

Kratie is filled with numerous nature and wildlife attractions that make it a must visit stop in Cambodia

  • 15 kilometers outside of Kratie is the dolphin habitat is the perfect place to see the endangered irrawaddy dolphins. The habitat also place a large role in conservation efforts to protect the dolphins.
  • 30 kilometers outside of Kratie is the Phnom Preah wildlife and nature reserve. As one of the top tourist attractions in Kratie, it holds many species of wildlife and birds.
  • Also 30 kilometers away from Kratie is the waterfall of Cham Pey, a natural resort with waterfalls, flowers, and mountains. Nearby is Rut Cham Pey containing many statues depicting the process of human life-born and died and other religion and animal figures.

See the Culture

Connecting with the culture and history of Cambodia in the capital is a necessity during your trip.

  • Go to the Cambodian Living Arts Performance where you can see traditional Khmer classical dance in Broadway like shows. A great way to see the shows is by joining a tour of Phnom Phen .
  • Get in touch with local foods and culture at the the Central Market in Phnom Penh. Located on Calmette Street, the Central Market is a great spot to admire the Cambodian architecture and history.
  • Learn about the history of Cambodia by taking a tour of the Tuol Sleng Prison and Killing Fields iof Choeung Ek n Phnom Phen.

Taste the Culture

One of the best ways to experience Cambodian culture is by tasting it.

  • Samlor Kako is considered the true national dish of Cambodia. It is a hearty soup that is commonly made with catfish and pork belly. The soup always includes prahok, a type of fermented fish, and kroeung, a fragrant curry paste and is then thickened with toasted ground rice.
  • Bai Sach Chrouk is one of the more simple Cambodian dishes. It is made of thinly sliced pork which is marinated in palm sugar and fish sauce, then slow-grilled over warm coals and finally served over white rice.
  • Amok is one of the best know Cambodian dishes. Traditionally the dish is made with either fish or snails. Sometimes amok is steamed with egg in a banana leaf for a mousse-like texture, while other times it is served as a boiled version that is more like a soupy fish curry.
